Hey there,
I was introduced to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies back in 2015. I wanted to hone my reading habit and had decided to read at least one good article every day be it online or in a newspaper. Finishing books was so overwhelming at that time.
I stumbled upon a great piece of writing at that time. It was about an online drug store (the illicit ones) called the Silk Road. Ross Ulbricht created it in 2011 and within 3 years, the Silk Road had made more than $1 billion in sales. He used to sell all types of drugs through Dark Web and at that time, made all the transactions through Bitcoin.
Because of the Dark Web and the blockchain technology used in Bitcoin, he was extremely difficult to track down. But was finally caught in 2013.
The Untold Story of Silk Road written by Joshuah Bearman and published in the WIRED magazine is a fantastic article that everyone should read. It’s a two-part article about how Ross Ulricht ran his dark web drug business and how the police investigated the whole scandal. It’s a thrilling story and I read the complete article in one go.
For me, completing it was no less than finishing a book or watching a thriller detective web series. It was so good.
And now, as cryptocurrencies have become more relevant, reading it will give you an idea, why most states are still skeptical about it.
