A Simple Hack To Read More
Hey There,
Most of the shops and malls are reopening from today in my state (UP) which is a relief. But, remember, COVID is still here. There is news about a DELTA PLUS variant which is supposed to be more dangerous than the previous DELTA variant responsible for the second wave.
Stay cautious…
Just a quick hack that I have learned last week from Ali Abdal (a YouTuber).
It's for those who own a Kindle and want to read more.
"Instead of using your phone, take your kindle to bed and read."
Radiology isn't the only thing that I am interested in. I aim to read at least 1-2 books a month on different topics especially history. But I am unable to accomplish it just because I can't take out time for reading.
I waste most of my time on Youtube, Instagram, and Whatsapp. The only time I get is before I go to bed.
To read a physical book, I need the lights on. But once I stop reading and switch off the lights, I don't fall asleep at once. It's the time between switching off the lights and falling asleep that is most crucial. Because, like most of us, I can't fall asleep before checking on my social media and watching few youtube videos. I waste at least 15-20mins on my phone which I can easily invest in reading.
That's when Kindle kicks in.
With Kindle, I can continue reading even when the lights are off. It has an Ink screen which is not as harmful as our phone and iPad screens. So, it doesn't affect my sleep.
I can stay away from my phone and still have some source of entertainment before I sleep.
Research has shown that even narcolepsy patients don't fall asleep when they are using their cell phones. Reading makes me sleepy. I usually suggest to my friends who are having difficulty sleeping that they should put the phone down and pick a book. It works most of the time. The moment you start reading, you start feeling sleepy.
It acts as a way to control my dopamine cravings. The more I use social media, the more I get stimulated by constant novel content about puppies, memes, and Instagram models. But redirecting all that energy to kindle acts like a mini dopamine detox and helps me learn more in the process.
You should also give it a try.
If you don't have a kindle, save some money and order it. You won't regret it. It's small and fits in my pocket. You can take it anywhere be it travel, office, college, and even the loo. It's a great way to reduce your screen time.
What I am reading right now?
It’s "12 Rules for life by Jordon Peterson".
I love the first rule "Stand Up Straight With Your Shoulders Back". Especially where he talks about the neurobiological changes in the brain when we feel defeated and how we can change it just by fixing our posture.
Do give it a try.
Stay safe.
